                        HONORARY RANGERS  GENERAL MEETING 24 July 2014

The Chair thanked everyone for their contribution and hard work in making the Winter Fair a success. Number of stalls increased from last year, and profit was just over R33,000. A full reconcilation will be presented at the follow up meeting.

An impala was found dead on a property. It appeared to have been impaled by another impala's horn. A duiker was caught in a fence, and died.

This took place on 23 July 2014. Numbers not yet released.

No figures supplied by the Municipality.

Gate cap fell off at Gate 1, injuring a security guard. MPPOA taking the issue to the Municipality to follow up.

Poacher arrested by Thabo and Phulane of the Municipality on July 18 on Seekoi and Butterfly. Case to be heard 28 July

Cleanup campaign

205 bags of rubbish have been collected through by the clean up campaign to date. The dump at Gate 2 to be improved. Suggestion is to enclose the area. Plan drawn up and for John to take it to William at the Municipality for consultation.  Area around bus stops for improvement. T shirts to be ordered for cleanup campaign. More drums needed opposite trading post.

Blanket Collection.

Donation of R2500 received to buy blankets and clothing. Alison has spent R1500 on these items, and will be distributing them after consultation where the need is greatest. Church groups and people who are already involved to be consulted.

A report of children fishing in the crocodile dam with the crocodile visible was investigated and photos taken and placed on FB.

7. Lionspruit

Bird hides at Impala and Ngwenya dam urgently need to be rethatched. John to head this up and to obtain quotes  for thatch, timber and labour.

Toilet, at Frkkies.

This is still incomplete byTony Hayman but he  hopes to be able to start work there again next week.

Lionspruit signs to be replaced to be more bush friendly. Quotes to be obtained.

Lions

Dezi and Fluffy still be regularly monitored, and are in a good condition. Particular worry is whether they are getting enough food.

Fence.

Concern was raised whether these are being checked regularly. The meeting was assured the Rangers are doing this. An issue of whether walking trails could be implemented as it would be a source of income for the Municipality, but on a practical level of security and requirements needed, these would have to be investigated.

WfW team still continuing to do a good job.They are concentrating on Triffid. A motivation for a contract to eradicate Lantana which has become a major problem after the rains.

Quiet period

Website is now live, but adjustments still being made with the look and layout. The last four rates inserts are on the web, as well as the photos of the Fair, thanks to Peter. The bulk emailing is being tested and working, which means in principle we can email all property owners with the rates insert. The hosting company has agreed to monitor this when we first try it. Peter Craig-Cooper has agreed to take photos of the Honorary Rangers for the website.

Going well. Donations received from Martin Hobbs of a chain saw, and four radios from an anonymous donor. All donations will be mentioned on FB.

1 black mamba, 1 python. 1 lenguaan not removed.

Date to be discussed at the next committee meeting on August 14, 2014. 6vehicles with one captain and five others. Routes will be reviewed and adjusted.

Distribution of the fire flyer with information regarding procedure. Flyers to be put in Lodges, Municipal office, attached to briquettes at shops, to be given out to entrants into LS, and Gates. And Umdani. First Aid certificates will be handed out at the next General meeting on 28 August 2014

No progress.

An objection was received on this.  Further investigation needed to obtain a general opinion.

Benches at Henk van Rooyen

Lesley Cunningham to be consulted regarding the viability of having bench tables in the demarcated braai area for propertry owners.

Sign on erf 708 to be investigated

A request to municipality for new road signs. John  Webber consulted with the Director of Roads as to the way forward.

Heritage Day.

Elfas happy with the arrangement that Municipal staff could have a day in KNP.

Work has begun on a photographic record along Seekoie where there is potential for trees to be cut down illegally. Peter will continue with this.
