HONORARY RANGERS GENERAL MEETING 

28 September 2017

Evan welcomed everyone and Peter opened the meeting with a prayer.

1      Present :  Evan Powell (CHR), Peter Craig-Cooper, Diana van Rensburg, Uschi Powell, Rob Farquharson, Sandra Dill-Franzen, Paul Dill-Franzen, Oubaas Visser, Lynette de Jong, Linda Benade, Juan de Beer, Mel Fennel, Penelope Mayson, Carol Fennel, JJ van Rensburg.

2      Apologies :  Andrew Hudson, John Webb, Lizzy Modiga, Johan Veldsman, Graeme Altenkirk,  Nellie Morgan, Jim Morgan, Joce Gordon, Genie Retief.  

John has resigned from the committee and Evan thanked him for his contribution.  Mel has been co-opted onto the committee.

        Carol Fennel was welcomed as a new HR and presented with a cap and epaulettes.

        A visitor was welcomed to the meeting.

3      Feedback SAGIC course

        Evan, Uschi and Terence attended a SAGIC course and Evan gave feedback on why it is important to control alien plants. It is not only to preserve biodiversity and maintain a buffer zone but it also the law.

3      Game Counts

        The biweekly game counts will start on Thursday 7 September at 8.00am.  These regular counts are to provide a trend or pattern which is used for veld management purposes.  These are not accurate figures for animal populations.  All game counts are estimates only and provide the minimum numbers as it depends how far into the bush the counters can see and therefore how many animals are seen.

        There will be 3-4 people per vehicle and only animals seen must be counted and if possible male or female noted.

        Evan announced that Rob Farquharson is leaving for Natal and wished him well.

3      Meeting feedback

        At the recent committee meeting the idea of bush braais in Lionspruit was discussed.  These would highlight Lionspruit and provide income for HR and the Municipality. 

        The 2 problem ostriches were also discussed and the proposal of moving them and their nests of eggs to Lionspruit was agreed on.

        HR did gate duty over the long weekend of June 16th but will not be on gate duty at the start of the school holidays coming up.

        Volunteers helping with game counts need Cybertrackerloaded on their phones.
