The roar of a lion is for many the sound which epitomises wild Africa and in Marloth Park we are fortunate to have 'our own lions' in Marloth's Lionspruit reserve. What can be better than to sit quietly at an evening braai and hear in the background the Lionspruit lions calling, perhaps to each other, perhaps to a pride across the Crocodile River in Kruger National Park?

Lionspruit, a 1500 hectare reserve of fenced bushveldt adjacent to and contiguous with Marloth Park, is home to a variety of animals including some of the 'big' ones. It comprises a variety of terrain with observation hides at Impala, Frikkies and Ngwenya dams. Although the bush is thick in parts, you may see buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeeste, a variety of buck - even our solitary waterbuck - and maybe, the lions. Leopard frequent the area and serval have been seen recently. There are birds aplenty: vultures, raptors and often at the Gravel Pit, Marabou Storks.

Entry to Lionspruit is available to all residents during daylight hours on production of a resident's card, obtainable at the Municipal Office in Henk van Rooyern Park. Access is from Wildgoose Street. Visitors can gain access by paying at the Municipal Offices, cnr, Maroela and Crocodile Roads or at the Lionspruit Gate. You must not get out of your car except (and at your own risk) at the hides.
